A Nigerian pastor has claimed that Christians who rent properties are doing a disservice to God while calling on them to build their own homes.
Pastor Charles Osazuwa of the Rock of Ages Christian Assembly based in the city of Benin in the southern Nigerian state of Edo called on his flock to build their own houses amid claims that people who rent are serving a ‘second God’ in the form of a landlord.
The pastor added that whenever he speaks with someone with a job, the first thing he advises them is to build their own home.
He believes tenants should “free themselves” from tenants to better serve God.
Pastor Osazuwa said: “The tenant is always at the mercy of the landlord. The landlord can call the tenant anytime and he can request to use his apartment anytime.
“The Christian who is a tenant should work towards freeing himself from the second Lord which is the landlord.”
Pastor Osazuwa said that a Christian can always decide to build a luxurious home with a swimming pool and all mod cons later on in life.
He referred to such a dream house as a “country home”.
