Parents Fight To Save Their 2-Headed Baby Girl

The parents of this baby girl born with “two heads” are desperately searching for a hospital to save her life after the one where she was born allegedly gave up and refused to treat her.

Married couple Arzu Sevilay and Ali Hidir, from the Derince district of Kocaeli province, Turkey found out they were going to have their third child towards the end of 2018.

However, when they went to a checkup where they were going to find out the sex of the baby, the doctors told them that the four-month-old baby was suffering from encephalomyelocele, a congenital defect in the cranium which is usually associated with the herniation of the brain tissue and the membranes which surround the brain.

The baby was found out to suffer from ncephalomyelocele since in the stomach of her mother and the doctors suggested that the mother should have an abortion but she decided to give birth to her daughter

Brain herniation is a potentially deadly side effect of extremely high pressure in the skull which occurs when a part of the brain is squeezed across structures within the skull.

The doctor reportedly told the couple that the baby would be born with two heads and the birth represented a risk for the mother.

The couple were also told that the baby would not survive and they were recommended to have an abortion.

However, the couple decided to go ahead with the birth and baby girl Elfi was born at Kocaeli University Research and Training hospital on 8th May.

The couple were told the baby had no chance of survival and they were reportedly taken through the procedure for when an infant dies in the hospital.

The baby is everyday fighting for life while the family lives with the fear that she can die any moment

The couple claim the medical personnel did not bother to take care of the baby and they then looked after her after taking her home.

They are now looking for a hospital which will remove the mass from her head which mother Arzu says is growing larger every day.

She added: “The fear of losing her is terrible and I am living with that fear every day. I cannot take her in my arms, I want to take my baby in my arms.”

Father Ali added that he wants his daughter to be healthy and said: “One week after the birth we went back to the hospital. We asked for treatment but they told us there is no treatment for this baby and told us that the baby is hardly surviving.

“We applied for a note from the hospital saying the baby was disabled one month later but they didn’t give us the report. The doctors told us it would be difficult for the baby to survive but nothing they said became true. They said the baby cannot see, hear or feel but I can see her seeing. They told us there is no cure for this illness but the baby is fighting for her life.

“We did some research and found out that some babies have been treated and have survived. I want my daughter to gain her health. We want the doctors to help us. We are not asking for money, we are asking for good doctors.”

Elif has two older brothers who love their sister

Mother Arzu told local media that during the night she and her husband sleep in shifts in check if their daughter is still alive.

The couple are now waiting for medical treatment that will save the life of their daughter.

The parents are not taking legal action against the hospital and the hospital have not commented on the case.
