Panda shows how to twerk that body to scratch an itch it just cannot reach.
The panda – at Hongshan Forest Zoo in the city of Nanjing, in Jiangsu Province – put on its bizarre performance as a crowd was gathered around its enclosure.
Phone footage shows the desperate bear as it hops over a small platform and lifts itself up so one leg is on up upright pole and one front paw is on a rail.
Then it wriggles its backside up and down against a tree trunk to relieve its itchy butt.
Visitors at the enclosure burst out laughing as the nonchalant panda put on its show.
Zoo staff later explained that the panda has done the same thing once before, and it is part of its normal behaviour.
And its laid-back character apparently brought in many more visitors after the video was posted on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.
The video received nearly half a million likes and more than 60,000 comments, with many amused netizens adding hilarious remarks.
One Douyin user – ‘Volare_ million’ – said in a comment: “It is said that Nanjing Hongshan Zoo does not host animal shows, but it seems the animals perform by themselves anyway.”
And user ‘donald dameow’ wrote: “Panda: It’s just an itchy butt. What are these two-legged beasts laughing at?”
