NGO Offers Greta Thunberg Donkey To Get To Madrid Summit

A Spanish association has offered environmental activist Greta Thunberg a donkey for her to travel from Lisbon to Madrid for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The Fray Hernando de Talavera de la Reina Neighbourhood Association located in the central Spanish province of Toledo has offered the Swedish 16-year-old a donkey for her to travel from the Portuguese capital to Madrid after the convention was moved to the Spanish capital due to the ongoing unrest in Chile where it was originally going to be held.

In a message sent to Thunberg, the association said: “We are aware of the importance of making the world aware of the environmental situation.”

The young activist is reportedly travelling to Madrid after a 21-day catamaran trip across the Atlantic on board the ‘La Vagabonde’ before docking in Portugal ahead of the UN summit.

To help her reach the Spanish capital using a clean transport method, Thunberg has been offered a small dark donkey with the name Platerito.

According to the association president Diego Hernandez, the donkey lives on a ranch with two other donkeys where they are allowed to roam “freely and happily”.

Hernandez said “Greta has not responded to us yet, but if she says ‘yes’, we can have the donkey ready for her” although he did admit that the form of transport “is not very practical”.
