Officers seized a .38 calibre revolver and ammunition during the operation, and forensic experts are now comparing the weapon against bullets recovered from the victims’ bodies.

Police also obtained audio from a security camera installed at a neighbouring property, which captured the final moments before the killings on 16th July.

According to police, the camera did not record the attack itself, but the microphone picked up the sound of Leonardo’s lawnmower running, followed by a gunshot, the engine stopping, Rayane screaming for help and a second shot moments later.

Investigators believe the recording indicates Leonardo may have been shot first while he was mowing the grass before Rayane was killed.

An audio recording from a previous court hearing revealed that the neighbours had argued over the issue, with Leonardo claiming he had been forced to spend money lowering his plot to comply with condominium rules.

During the hearing, a mediator attempted to resolve the disagreement by suggesting changes to the pavement area, but Leonardo insisted that the same rules should apply to all residents.

Police are investigating whether the long-running dispute was linked to the double murder.
Following Ferreira’s arrest, officers also searched his vehicle and found a highly aggressive political message taped inside, according to investigators.
He had previously posted threatening messages on social media, including a statement saying that “no right-wingers would be left standing” in the Federal District.
Rayane worked as coordinator of the Cadastro Unico social programme in Santo Antonio do Descoberto, in Goias state, while Leonardo worked as a sales coordinator for Brasal Refrigerantes.
The couple had been together for 15 years, officially married in 2025, and left behind a young daughter.
Ferreira had a criminal record including previous cases involving homicide, attempted homicide, threats, illegal possession of a weapon, domestic violence and other offences, according to reports.
Following his arrest, Ferreira was brought before a judge for an emergency custody hearing, where his arrest was formally converted into preventative detention without bail due to his extensive violent record.
During his interrogation at the 20th Police Station, the businessman invoked his right to remain silent.
Meanwhile, forensic teams at the scene noted that Leonardo’s lawnmower had stopped exactly on the disputed property boundary line, indicating he was ambushed the moment he began clearing the grass near the contested wall.
The case is being investigated by the 20th Police Station in Gama, which is working to establish the full circumstances and motive behind the killings.
