Mum Who Had Abortion Told Foetus Still In Womb

This mum-of-two who went for an abortion was shocked to learn a week later that her supposedly terminated foetus was still alive inside her womb.

Zhou Fengxia, 37, did not wish to have a third child and paid for the operation at the Aviation Industry Corporation of China Xi’an Hospital in north-western Shaanxi Province.

The routine surgery took place on 10th July, but Ms Zhou said she went for a second medical exam after feeling discomfort.

She said: “I went to a local hospital a week later, and the doctor told me my baby was still growing inside me.”

Ms Zhou lives with a congenital malformation known as uterine septum, which means her uterus is partitioned into two – a fact the first hospital as well as the male surgeon were aware of.

She added: “The foetus was in the left cavity, but he performed surgery on the right cavity, and the baby was left alive in my womb.

“Didn’t he see what exactly they removed? The hospital blamed it on their equipment.

“My scans showed the foetus on the left, so why did he operate on the right?”

The hospital has yet to formally respond to the embarrassing incident but has reportedly offered Ms Zhou follow-up surgery free of charge.

Ms Zhou, however, is demanding an as yet unspecified amount from the hospital as compensation, citing the psychological impact of the ordeal as well as the time it has kept her away from work.

It is unclear when she plans to undergo her abortion.
