Paula collapsed outside the apartment building where she lived on Frei Gaspar Street, where emergency services were called.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrested Pereira after reviewing security footage and said he was wearing the same clothes as the attacker seen in the recordings.
After the stabbing, Pereira allegedly discarded the knife at Pensil Bridge and washed his hands at Biquinha Square before going to a police station.
Investigators said he falsely claimed he had heard about the attack and wanted officers to help him find the person responsible, but his alleged cover story quickly fell apart when police matched his clothing to the footage.
Confronted by officers, Pereira confessed and told police he had attacked Paula after becoming jealous when he discovered messages between her and another former partner.
He later returned to Paula’s apartment building, telling police he wanted to check on her nine-year-old daughter because he cared about the child.
Pereira was accompanied by an officer to the apartment, where the girl was removed and later taken to the police station before being handed into the care of her biological father.
Police said Pereira and Paula had been in a relationship for around three months and that he worked carrying out maintenance at the building where she lived.
Residents said Paula had moved there with her daughter around six months before the attack.
Because Paula had no relatives living in Sao Vicente, her body was being transported back to her home state of Paraiba, in northeastern Brazil, for burial.
Pereira is expected to face charges of qualified femicide, with investigators citing circumstances including an alleged ambush and factors that prevented Paula from defending herself.
