This is the moment a monkey smuggler slaps the animal in the face before subjecting it to further violence.
The incident happened in Avuttepe neighbourhood in Altinozu district of Hatay Province, in southern Turkey, on 6th September.
Footage shows the man striking the monkey across the face and then continuing to abuse it while it cowers.
The video was shared on social media and triggered an investigation by the Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorate and the gendarmerie.
Teams went to the scene and seized the monkey from its owner.
The man was fined TRY 20,000 (GBP 360) under the Hunting Law.
Officials placed the monkey under protection.
It has undergone health checks and is being prepared for transfer to a centre suited to its natural habitat.
