Moment Fishermen Save Shark From Net And Toss Overboard

This is the moment Italian fishermen hose down a small shark after freeing it from their nets and then toss it back into the sea.

The incident was filmed off the coast of Manfredonia in the province of Foggia in the south-eastern Italian region of Apulia, and the footage was shared on Facebook where it has been viewed 75,000 times.

Antonio Castriotta, who shared the clip on the Facebook page of ‘Radio Manfredonia Centro’, told Newsflash: “I was sent it by a friend who works on the Alba Adriatica boat where it was filmed.”

Castriotta told Newsflash that the small shark, species unknown, became trapped in the fishermen’s nets and the vessel’s captain Salvatore Varrecchia called for it to be freed and released.

The footage shows the moment Varrecchia hoses down the shark as a colleague holds its tail after apparently already cutting it free from the net.

Both men then pick up the shark and count to three before tossing it over the edge of the boat.

However, the little shark appears to whack its tail on the ledge before splashing into the water.

Castriotta told Newsflash that the shark was trapped in the net for at least two hours before being “released into the sea in its natural habitat”.
