A luxury home owned by the deceased drug lord of the Juarez Cartel has been put up for auction by the Mexican authorities for nearly 2 million GBP.
The public auction, organised by the ‘Instituto para Devolver al Pueblo lo Robado’ (‘Institute for Giving Back to the People What Was Stolen) will take place on 3rd May.
The property owned by deceased drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes is on sale for 53 million MXN (1.7 million GBP), according to reports.
Carrillo Fuentes, nicknamed ‘El Senor de los Cielos’ (‘The Lord of the Sky’) because of the large fleet of jets he used to transport drugs, died of complications at the Hospital Angeles Santa Monica in Mexico City in 1997 while undergoing facial plastic surgery.
His property is located in the colony of Jardines del Pedregal in the municipality of Alvaro Obregon in the Mexican capital Mexico City, and is the most expensive item in the upcoming auction.
As well as the dead drug lord’s estate, the authorities are auctioning 107 jewellery items, 71 vehicles, six off-road vehicles, five aircrafts and five other properties, according to local media.
Reports said the auction will take place at the Complejo Cultural Los Pinos in Mexico City and the total amount of the lots comes to 130 million MXN (4.2 million GBP).
Only 15 people will be allowed to take part in the auction in person due to COVID-19 containment measures while others can make bids by phone.
