The man is fixated on the handheld device and does not notice the stopped lorry, and he ends up embarrassing himself by banging his head on the tailgate, the video shows.

Despite the blunder, the pedestrian then circles around to the front of the lorry, holding his head and accusing the driver of having reversed into him.

They called the cops when the pedestrian refused to give up his claim and the driver refused to pay damages.

Wuxi County police spokesman said: “We were called handle the traffic incident in which the pedestrian claimed the lorry had reversed into him.

“The lorry driver was puzzled and could not understand how he reversed into the man.

“A CCTV inspection showed the lorry had stopped before the zebra crossing to allow a pedestrian to pass. The man then walked up behind the lorry and wasn’t even paying attention because he was looking at his phone.”

The police said the pedestrian was not seriously hurt and was treated at a local hospital.

He is not expected to be punished for making the false claim.
