These images show a man licking what he claims is a 900-degree Celsius red hot iron bar without suffering any damage to his tongue – adding he “enjoys doing it”.
Sixty-four-year-old Ilhan Kinay, from the Trabzon province in the Black Sea region of Turkey, says he discovered his talent for licking dangerously hot metal several bars several years ago in a bet with friends.
He told reporters: “I started this many years ago in the 1980s during a bet with my friends who told me I wouldn’t be able to do it. Since then, I do it from time to time. The only key to success is hard work. I strongly warn people not to try this at home, their tongue could burn. I am the only one in Turkey who can do this.”
In the photos, he can be seen licking what appears to be a red-hot iron bar and images appear to show his tongue unaffected by it.
Kinay also added that he wants to apply for the Guinness Book of World Records saying: “Why wouldn’t I get in the Guinness Book of World Records? I think is about time to do that. Nothing happened to my tongue after licking the hot iron. I enjoy doing it.
“People are licking cold ice creams and I am licking hot ice cream. I feel no pain. I want to attend shows and do a performance. I am confused why I haven’t been offered to attend a programme. I am waiting for offers.”
Blacksmith Murat Sevinc told reporters Kinay had performed the stint in his smith before and said “the secret… is courage”.
