This is the moment an elderly man wearing what appears to be a Nazi military uniform with a swastika armband is filmed eating a burger in a Wimpy restaurant.
The startling scene was recorded when the man, who has not been named in reports, was eating at a Wimpy restaurant in the Fleurdal Mall in the city of Bloemfontein, in Central South Africa’s Free State Province.
In the video, an elderly man in military uniform can be seen sitting at a table in the restaurant with a swastika armband the same as those worn in Nazi Germany on his right arm.
The person recording says: “I’m not sure if you can see that. That flag is some scary a*s sh*t. And this guy is chilling, he’s eating… like there’s absolutely nothing wrong with his attire.”
The same user then posted another video, reportedly taken on the outskirts of Bloemfontein, showing a swastika flag being flown alongside what appears to be a Soviet flag outside a building and she says “this is so crazy” while another woman says “oh my goodness, these people”.
The video was posted online and brought a host of scathing comments, with Wimpy now responding to the clip.
In a statement, the fast-food chain said they were aware of the incident and they take incidents of “this nature very seriously” adding that they have launched an investigation.
The company said the man may have been a participant in a commemoration event for Operation Barbarossa in World War II which took place in the area.
The commemoration event, which celebrates Germany’s failed invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, has reportedly begun to take place in the city every year. The unsuccessful invasion is seen as one of the major turning points in WWII.
The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if the authorities have been alerted.
