A cheeky monkey at a Chinese zoo went viral after it was filmed jumping on the glass to scare visitors but only hurt itself instead.
The silly macaque attracted online attention when it failed an attempt to mess with zoogoers in Quanzhou, in the south-eastern Fujian Province.
In a clip – which went viral with over 130,000 views on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok – a visitor can be seen leaning towards the glass enclosure to get a better look at the animals.
One particularly playful monkey seems to notice and decides to give him a real close-up.

It runs up and jumps on the glass, making a screaming motion as if to scare the visitor.
But instead of a laugh, the monkey only got a bruised right leg after it apparently slammed against the window too hard.
Seemingly embarrassed, the macaque turns tail and walks away from the visitor while holding its leg with both hands and slightly limping.
Numerous netizens felt bad that the monkey hurt itself but could not help but mock its antics.
Douyin user ‘meet xiaobai’ commented: “The monkey acted like he kept digging in his pockets, as if he forgot to bring his keys when he went out?”
Another user titled ‘village guy’ wrote: “Give him a walking stick.”
And user ‘Strawberry Winter Melon Soup’ commented: “Muscle strain, it looks like you didn’t do a proper warm-up.”
