Loyal Dog Stabbed Four Times While Protecting Owner From Knife-Wielding Husband

A loyal dog has been seriously injured after he placed himself in front of his owner and her grandchildren to defend them from the woman’s knife-wielding husband.

Brave ‘Fofinho’ (‘Little Cutie’) was stabbed four times in the attack carried out by his owner’s husband, who subsequently fled and was arrested following an 18-hour manhunt on 20th April.

Police officer Valmintas Souza, who was called to the scene, realised Fofinho needed urgent help, and he and his wife took the wounded pooch to a willing vet in Montes Claros, some 45 miles away.

Vet Caio Santos Rabelo explained to local media that had the rescue been delayed by a few hours, Fofinho might not have survived.

The pooch entered the clinic with multiple injuries, including two significant perforations in the chest and abdomen, in which he had bowel leakage, which threatened infection and death.

He underwent an ex lap, in which the wounds to his abdomen were cleaned and closed. He remains hospitalised and is being given anti-inflammatories, antibiotics and painkillers.

The dog will be subject to further tests and should be discharged in little over a week. His biggest challenge now is to recover his locomotor ability. Officer Souza told G1: “He was a true hero.”

The identity of the suspect has not been revealed and it is not clear what charges he faces. The identities of the other victims have not been revealed and their health status is not clear.
