This Kuwaiti couple have been arrested after posting a social media video of the husband brushing his wife’s hair which was deemed “immoral”.

Local media report the pair were arrested in their home in the conservative Islamic country of Kuwait after posting the video to Twitter where it reportedly provoked a strong backlash from netizens.

He can be seen with his arms around her as she speaks to the camera. Reports state detectives studied the video and identified the couple before arresting them at their home yesterday (Tuesday).

Reports say a source in the Kuwaiti authorities said a suit had been filed against the couple with public prosecutors charging them with “violation of public decency”.

Reports say the video was deemed “immoral” and that investigators follow social media to prevent content being posted which “contradicts the nature of conservative Kuwaiti society”.

Local media report the couple are believed to have released the video with the intention of provoking criticism and lawsuits against them. It is unclear why they wanted to encourage lawsuits against them.

The Bidoon is a stateless social class considered as illegal immigrants in Kuwait. They can be stateless tribespeople, economic migrants or the children of Kuwaiti women who married Bidoon men.

It is unclear if the couple remain in custody.
