Iran Husband Beheads Teen Wife In Honour Killing

A husband in Iran has allegedly beheaded his teenage wife and dumped her severed head by a river in a reported honour killing after she left him a year previously.

The incident took place in the city of Abadan, in the south-western Iranian province of Khuzestan.

According to local media, the 23-year-old-man, who has not been identified, beheaded his 19-year-old wife and then walked into the police station holding a blood-stained knife to confess.

The man allegedly told police that he had killed his wife and left her head near a river.

He told cops he allegedly killed her for “running away from home with another man” two days into their marriage, more than a year ago.

The man said that he looked for his wife for a year before he found her. When he did he persuaded her to come home with him, saying he had forgiven her. Shortly afterwards he allegedly killed her.

This comes less than a month after the news of a 13-year-old girl being beheaded in her sleep by her father shook the country.

According to local media, the young girl – named as Romina Ashrafi – had run away from home with a man – reported in Iranian media being 35-years-old – after her dad opposed them marrying.

The girl was eventually found by police and was later returned home and placed under the care of her father.

The girl’s father allegedly killed her in her sleep by beheading her with a curved blade weapon.

According to local media, he then allegedly went to the police station with the murder weapon in his hand and confessed to the crime.

However, if convicted he will not be punished by death under Iranian law because he was the girl’s guardian.

While the exact figures for the number of honour killings in Iran are unknown, a police official has previously suggested that they make up a fifth of the murder cases in the country.
