IDF Soldier Kidnapped By Hamas For 5 Years Gets Engaged

This image shows the beaming face of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit who was kidnapped by Hamas and held prisoner for five years before being released who has now proposed to his girlfriend.

His partner, Nitzan Shabbat, posted a smiling photo of the couple in which the bride-to-be is seen holding up her hand to show a diamond engagement ring.

According to local media Shalit proposed to Shabbat on Valentine’s Day last week with news of the engagement now in local media.

The happy couple have been dating for about a year-and-a-half, according to local media.

Over this time period, the pair have documented many of the milestones in their relationship on their respective social media accounts, now including the announcement of their impending marriage.

Despite the news, it is currently unclear when exactly the couple are set to get married.

Gilad previously had a four-year relationship with one woman followed by a four-year realtionship with another.

His current relationship was revealed in the media in October last year.

The 33-year-old who was a border patrol officer was captured by Hamas troops in June 2006 after Hamas launched a cross-border raid using an underground tunnel.

The solider was held for five years before Hamas finally agreed to release him in exchange for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
