These disturbing images show a cute squirrel found hanged after apparently eating nuts belonging to its killer.
The shocking incident took place in the village of Sonje in the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje, and the images have been widely shared on social media.
In the images, the squirrel can be seen hanging from a blue rope tied around its neck in an area of woodland.
The woman who posted the images, Maja Arsovska, wrote: “In Sonje […] there is a hanged squirrel. Apparently, the squirrel was hanged on purpose because it was eating (the killers) nuts.
“If anyone has any information about this cruelty, or about the person who did this terrible act and hates animals, please call the police.”
She added: “There is allegedly a local resident in the village who did terrible acts to animals before because he was protecting his property. However, there are no witnesses for the hanging of the squirrel so we cannot say his (the suspect’s) name.”
Netizens were quick to show their disgust at the images, such as ‘Zoja Tomic’ who wrote: ” So cruel, what century do we live in?”.
‘Lence Hristova’ said: “These are sick minds”.
‘Zoran Atanasovski Monsi ‘ added: “I hope the person who did this dies”.
Animal rights activists have called for the person who hanged the squirrel to be found and punished. No arrests have been reported yet.
