Huge Whale Leaps Into Air In Front Of People In Canoe

This is the moment a huge humpback whale leaps into the air and crashes back down into the water in front of a stunned yoga teacher relaxing in a canoe.

The incredible scene was filmed by an onlooker just off the popular Barra de Tijuca beach in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the southeastern Brazilian state of the same name

In the video, a woman, who has been identified in reports as yoga instructor and canoeist Marcela Carrocino, no age given, can be seen leaning onto the float of a canoe in the water when a huge humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) suddenly leaps out of the water in front of her.

The whale flies high into the air before crashing back down to the water on its side, creating a huge splash.

Carrocino then climbs out of the water smiling and appears to pray. She described the spectacular jump as a “true gift”, adding on social media “our hearts overflowed with emotion” during “such a special moment”.

Local media report Humpback whales are frequently spotted off the Brazilian coast between July and November when they take advantage of the tropical waters to breed.

Adult humpback whales can grow up to 16 metres in length and weigh over 40 tonnes.

Neitzens loved the video, with ‘jujugnc’ commenting: “Wonderful nature, I cried!”

And ‘cidamoraesoficial’ added: “A gift from nature so we preserve it.”

While ‘marcelof_china’ wrote: “This unique moment is incredible.”
