Huge Polar Bear Charges At Man On Snowmobile In Abandoned Arctic Village

This nail-biting footage shows a polar bear chasing after a man armed with a rifle after he apparently opens fire on it before he gets on a snowmobile and drives away at speed, dropping his firearm in the process.

The incident took place in Pyramiden, an abandoned Soviet coal mining village on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, on Monday, 28th April.

The footage shows the man standing across from the polar bear and apparently opening fire, with the animal then chasing him as he rushes over to a snowmobile and speeds off, reportedly dropping his weapon in the process.

Russian media said that the man fleeing from the polar bear was a Russian citizen and that he had been trying to scare the bear away after it ventured into the human settlement.

It is believed that the bear might have been attracted by the smell of food left on the snowmobile.

It is currently unclear what happened after the footage ended, but both the man and the animal reportedly unharmed.

Polar bears are considered apex predators and, on rare occasions, have been known to hunt humans if they are hungry.
