This is the moment an honest kid helps collect hundreds of banknotes dropped by a bungling homeowner who lost them when he hung out a blanket not knowing his wife had hid the family’s savings inside.
Mr Chen hung up the blanket under the sun to prevent mold from growing on it, and he did not realise when the plastic bag containing 25,000 RMB (2,890 GBP) of family savings fell to the ground below.
CCTV footage from the county of Yongjia in East China’s Zhejiang Province shows the black plastic bag falling to the ground and countless 100 RMB (11 GBP) banknotes blowing across the ground.
Their 10-year-old neighbour Chen Shihan spots the money and immediately calls her mum to help pick up the money.
“They were all 100 RMB (11 GBP) banknotes. I told Mum but she didn’t believe me!” Chen said.
She added: “We picked it all up and put it back in the plastic bag.”
Shihan’s mum called the cops and officers from Oubei Police Station spent the next few hours searching for the owner.
Officer Xie Dongwei said: “Our investigations showed that it had fallen from a home above, but we were unable to determine who the money belonged to.”
The cash went unclaimed for days until Mr Chen’s wife, Ms Liao, arrived to claim it.
She told police that she had stashed the 250 banknotes inside a blanket, but her husband was unaware and dropped the bag when he hung the blanket up to dry.
