Police are investigating a traveller camp where a woman was allegedly held captive in a caravan for over a year, raped and tortured, and turned into a sex slave by her tormentors who also pimped her out.
About 80 police officers, including riot police, took part in the operation to detain the four individuals suspected of having held the 46-year-old woman captive in a traveller camp in France for over a year,.
A 32-year-old man and his 57-year-old mother, who are allegedly behind the “sordid” affair at the Vivarie camp near Castres, in the southern Tarn department in France’s Occitanie region, have been detained. Two other men were also detained but were later released.
The unnamed mother allegedly befriended the victim before holding her prisoner.
Overall more than 10 people were arrested, some over other judicial matters, and some for holding the woman captive and subjecting her to the “sordid” ordeal.
The unnamed woman from Castres was allegedly held prisoner as of 2016 and managed to escape after over a year of captivity. She reportedly spent the night in a ditch, hiding. She has been described in local media as “vulnerable.”
She was allegedly made to do cleaning chores by her captors, who also tortured her, raped her and accepted money from people who had sex with her.
The two suspects are being held in pre-trial detention after appearing before a judge in Toulouse. It is unclear if they have been charged.
