Malena Micaela Concha Soto, 25, was murdered at the Satelite motel in Ingeniero Budge, a town in Lomas de Zamora in Buenos Aires province, Argentina, on 20th January 2025.
Former footballer Enzo Daniel Chamorro, 26, has now been jailed for life after being convicted of killing her.

The court heard Malena and Chamorro arrived at the motel on Cosquin Street at around 2.30pm and were given room 17.
CCTV footage shows the young woman entering the property with Chamorro before later cameras show him leaving alone.

Footage from the motel and nearby streets then shows a man dressed in the same clothing running at full speed away from the scene.
Chamorro, who had played for lower-league side Camioneros, went to reception at around 5.38pm and claimed he needed to go to his vehicle to collect something.

But when the receptionist refused to let him leave, he ran off and escaped by jumping over a side gate.
Staff then checked the room and found Malena dead in the bathroom, lying over the toilet with a deep cut to her neck.

Buenos Aires police officers were called to the motel and later used staff statements and CCTV footage to reconstruct the couple’s movements.
Investigators also found Chamorro’s SUBE public transport card at the crime scene, which helped identify him.

He was arrested shortly afterwards at the junction of Pereyra Lucena and Estrada streets in Lomas de Zamora, only a few blocks from the stadium of Los Andes football club.
The Criminal Oral Court Number 4 in Lomas de Zamora found Chamorro criminally responsible for aggravated murder because of his relationship with the victim and because the killing was committed by a man against a woman in a context of gender violence.

Chamorro had been held in pre-trial detention before the hearing.
Prosecutors and lawyers for Malena’s family asked for a life sentence, while Chamorro’s defence called for him to be acquitted.

The court rejected the defence case and handed him the maximum sentence.
Malena was the mother of a five-year-old girl.
Her death came years after she had shared a campaign message against the murder of women saying: “I was born to be free, not murdered.”
Guillermina Payero, the lawyer for Malena’s family, said after the verdict: “Today there was finally justice for Malena Soto.
“Obviously, no sentence brings Malena back or calms the enormous pain her family has carried from the first day, but it was essential that this did not go unpunished and that the justice system recognised the seriousness of what happened.”
Guillermina said the trial had been extremely difficult for Malena’s family because it had dealt not only with how she died, but also with who she was, the life she had, her relationships and everything that was taken from her.
She added: “The murders of women cannot keep happening. We cannot normalise violence or always arrive too late.
“Behind every case file there is a woman who had a life, a family, projects and people who loved her. Malena should be alive.
“As a society, we have an obligation to keep talking about this, to prevent it and to demand answers before it is too late.
“Today a very important judicial stage ends. And although the pain remains, there is also the peace of knowing there was a conviction and that Malena was not forgotten.”
Malena’s mother Andrea wrote after the killing: “They ripped you from my hands, my love.
“I only ask people not to call me. I am not there for anyone. They killed my daughter Malena Soto and her killer was Enzo Daniel Chamorro.”
