Fugitive El Chapo Henchman Extradited To US

The Mexican authorities have extradited one of El Chapo’s top Sinaloa Cartel henchman to the United States.

Mexican authorities have extradited Luis Arellano Romero, a fugitive wanted by a federal court in Texas for his alleged link with the crimes of criminal association, organised crime, crimes against health, money laundering and weapons possession for his role in the Sinaloa Cartel.

The General Prosecution of the Republic said that Luis Arellano Romero, 44, who is considered a cooperator of drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, had been handed over after an agreement signed between Mexico and the United States.

According to a press statement, he has has been extradited after all the steps of the process and the legal resources the man had rights to were complete.

He was handed over to officers of the US Marshal Services at the international airport of the city of Toluca, in Mexico State. He will face charges in Texas.

The US Department of Justice confirmed in a press statement that Romero had been charged in the US in April 2012 and was considered a member of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The press statement also mentioned that the goal of the Sinaloa cartel is to traffic huge amounts of marijuana and cocaine to the United States for distribution. The profits are given back to the members of the cartel and are used to buy properties linked with the operation of the same organisation.

Joaquin Guzman Loera, Ismael Zambada Garcia, alias Mayo, Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo, alias Jaguar and other 20 people are allegedly responsible for the operation and the management of the Sinaloa cartel.

According to local media, Romero was the bodyguard of Jaguar Torres Marrufo, an alleged member of the Sinaloa cartel who was extradited to the United States in May this year. He was one of the 24 members of the Sinaloa Cartel charged in 2012, among them the leader of the cartel, Guzman.
