First Dolphin Baby Born Naturally in Artificial Breeding Environment in China

The first dolphin baby born naturally in an artificial breeding environment in Heilongjiang Province has been successfully delivered to the Harbin Poseidon Tourism Resort.

The dolphin baby, measuring approximately one metre in length and weighing nearly 10 kilogrammes at birth, then safely swam to the surface to take its first breath.

Currently, the mother dolphin remains inseparable from her baby, demonstrating strong nurturing behaviour by avoiding collisions and swimming around the baby dolphin. The baby dolphin is now 10 days old and in good health with the mother dolphin often lifting it to the surface to make sure it is breathing properly.

To ensure the well-being of both the baby dolphin and its mother, the scenic spot has implemented specific measures. Customized “confinement meals” have been prepared for the mother dolphin, taking into account her dietary preferences and professional nutritional ratios to replenish her energy.

Detailed records are kept of the baby dolphin’s feeding time, frequency, and breathing times, as well as the mother dolphin’s physical recovery and breastfeeding conditions.

This meticulous monitoring aims to ensure the healthy growth of the baby dolphin and the smooth recovery of the mother dolphin.

Online commentators like ‘Me’ said: “It is so magical.”

And user ‘Cheerful Brother Li’ said: “The baby dolphin is so cute! The deep love between mother and child.”

While the user ‘Juliet Tug of War’ said: “So much blood, it hurts to see.”
