Dolphin Freed After Being Tangled In Fishing Line

This is the moment a group of riverside residents rescue a stranded dolphin trapped by a fishing rope on a sandbank.

The rescue took place near Paqueta Island in Cameta, located on the left bank of the Tocantins River in the state of Para, Brazil, local media reported on 25th October.

The dolphin was discovered struggling on a sandbank when the group spotted it while navigating the river.

Video shows the animal thrashing as it tries to return to the water but fails because a fishing rope is tied around its tail.

The residents approach the dolphin and work together to free it from the rope before lifting it back into the river.

After several minutes of effort, the animal is released and swims away without showing visible signs of serious injury.

Locals said the animal had become entangled in a fishing line that prevented its movement and caused it to become stranded.

The incident has drawn attention to the danger that fishing gear and discarded ropes pose to aquatic animals in the Amazon, including species such as the pink dolphin and the tucuxi.
