A doctor has been given the sack after she was filmed gambling on her mobile phone while she was supposed to be treating a patient.
Meishan Hospital of Cardio-Cerebral-Vascular Disease has confirmed that the unnamed medic has been let go following an internal enquiry, during which she admitted to the allegations shown in the short clip.
The incident took place at the facility in Meishan City in China’s south-western Sichuan Province on 12th February, when the female patient brought her test results into the doctor’s office for a consultation.

The video shows the doctor talking to her about her results while sounds from her mobile phone’s gambling application play loudly.
When she receives a notification that it is her turn, the medic reacts to it and plays her hand in the game of virtual mahjong.

In the video, she only refocuses her attention on the patient’s documents when the now irate woman asks her about her condition.
A spokeswoman surnamed Guo said the patient filed a complaint against the medic, leading to the internal investigation and her eventually dismissal one day later.
The hospital said they had never had similar complaints about the medic in the past.
Guo said the patient was given a formal apology by the doctor on her way out, and her consultation fee was refunded, too.
