Customers Find Live Cockroaches In Supermarket Cakes

This stomach-churning footage shows live cockroaches two different customers say they have found in cakes they bought from a supermarket.

The incident came just five days apart after two customers bought cakes from two different branches of the 99 Speedmart chain in Malaysia.

The first video was posted online by a man named ‘Sureshgita Vpp’ online, who says he bought some cake from the supermarket in the town of Puchong in the Petaling District on 3rd March.

In the video, a group of around a dozen cockroaches can be seen on top of the cake box and he can be heard saying “the cockroaches are still alive, actually we throw some already.”

Some of the roaches can be seen moving and the man recording says “terrible” as the clip ends.

Another video was then posted online on 8th March by ‘Abdul Rehman’ to the ‘We Are Malaysians’ Facebook group. In the video, he shows his receipt is from 99 Speedmart in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

He then opens the lid to his cake and says “here’s your surprise”. The camera then shows two cockroaches inside the lid which he says “are still alive”.

He says he asked staff in the supermarket about the incident but they said they cannot stop cockroaches from crawling into the products. He added that they refused to give him a refund and said the blame lay with their suppliers.

‘Sureshgita Vpp’ says he wrote a letter of complaint to the supermarket and the bakery who supply them. He says the bakery had then collected the cake for evidence in their investigation but says he is yet to hear back from them or the supermarket.
