COVID-19 Infected Man Records Video Of Wuhan Walkabout

This is the moment a quarantined Chinese patient boasts in a video about escaping a Wuhan hospital “for a stroll” unaware that he would be confirmed as a victim of the deadly coronavirus three days later.

It means that Li Jun, 59, who slipped out of Wuhan Third Hospital where he was in quarantine, would have put other people’s lives at risk by his actions for which he has since apologised.

The hospital is in the COVID-19 epicentre Hubei Province in Central China, and the incident happened just two days after he was put in mandatory quarantine as an individual highly suspected of having been infected by the novel coronavirus pathogen on 16th February.

Mr Li, who is from Wuhan’s Wuchang District, sneaked out of the hospital while health workers were busy tending to other patients on 18th February.

He recorded a video on his mobile phone and later sent it to his relatives, who leaked the incredible admission online.

In the clip, Mr Li can be seen strolling on the near-empty streets of locked-down Wuhan while holding a plastic bag containing a bottle of disinfectant, which he personally bought from a pharmacy across the street from the hospital.

Despite his status as a suspected COVID-19 carrier, the mask-wearing resident walks into a park and sits on a bench while boasting about his walkabout.

In the footage, he can be heard saying: “See, I’ve found another chance to come out for a spin.

“I’ve been hospitalised. I’m in quarantine. But I got out.

“There are cars and people here. You see? Anyone can come out for a walk.

“They’ve locked all you idiots indoors. Afraid of death.

“It’s been a while since I’ve come out for a walk. Those in quarantine wouldn’t dream of it. Only I can come out for a spin.”

According to reports, Mr Li was diagnosed with COVID-19 on 22nd February.

In a public apology, Mr Li admitted his actions were “irresponsible”, and that he was willing to “accept legal consequences” once he was formally discharged from hospital.
