Clever Chimp Stuns Zoo Visitors By Clipping Its Own Fingernails With Nail Clippers

This is the moment a chimpanzee stuns zoo visitors by expertly using a pair of nail clippers to trim its own fingernails.

The footage from Lehe Ledu Theme Park zoo in Yongchuan District, Chongqing, southwestern China, was shared on Douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok on 7th March.

Video shows the chimpanzee, named Yuhui, calmly holding a set of nail clippers while lifting one hand and carefully cutting its fingernails.

The animal appears focused as it clips each nail before briefly examining the result and moving on to the next one.

Zoo staff said the 24-year-old chimpanzee has previously demonstrated a range of learned behaviours while living at the facility.

According to a keeper, the animal has been seen washing clothes, sweeping its enclosure, using chopsticks to eat noodles and looking at newspapers.

The keeper added that Yuhui typically learns a new skill every three to six months.

Yuhui was born at the zoo on 29th October 2001.

The video spread widely online after being shared on Chinese social media, where viewers praised the chimpanzee’s dexterity and joked that if it “evolves any further”, it might soon have to go to work.
