Chapos Mum Begs Mexican President For Visa To Visit Son

The mother of condemned Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman has reportedly handed a letter to the country’s president begging for a humanitarian visa so she can visit her son in a US jail.

Maria Consuelo Loera Perez, the mother of El Chapo, reportedly instructed her lawyer Jose Luis Gonzalez Meza to give a letter to the Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in which she asked for help in being granted a humanitarian visa to visit her son in the United States.

Meza showed the press a letter which says “I have not seen him in five years” and Perez describes herself as a “heartbroken and desperate mother”.

Meza claimed that he had given the letter to the president in person after an official event that took place on 15th February and that Obrador had put it in his shirt pocket.

The letter reportedly says: “We are asking for your valuable intervention so that the US government through the Mexican embassy authorise a humanitarian visa for me and my daughters Armida and Bernarda Guzman Loera.”

Guzman was recently handed a life sentence by a court in New York where he was found guilty of money laundering, drug trafficking and leadership of a criminal gang.

Perez’s lawyers said in a press conference: “The lady is almost 90 years old. She was going to give a press conference in the city of Badiraguato, in the state of Sinaloa, but she felt bad and went back, but she gave us the letter.”

Lopez Obrador recently visited Badiraguato, where the village of La Tuna where the drug lord was born in 1957 is located. The lawyers explained that El Chapo’s mother and sister will soon go to the Mexican capital Mexico City to visit the US embassy to ask for the visa.

After the sentencing, El Chapo’s lawyers claimed that they will look to take the case in front of an international court to declare the trial invalid as they believe it was illegal.

According to them, the Guzman’s transfer to New York in 2017 was illegal as the extradition was only allowed to California and Texas.

Meza said that the drug lord had only received one visit since he was extradited on 20th January 2017 and said his team of lawyers would travel to New York to meet with him and speak about his judicial situation.

Guzman will be sentenced to life behind bars and sent to the maximum security prison in Florence, Colorado in June.
