Cats And Dogs Displayed In Shopping Centre Machine

This is the moment live cats and dogs are displayed in a games machine in a Chinese shopping centre.

The incident was filmed in a commercial centre in the Chinese city of Shanghai, and the footage has been viewed 3.2 million times on the Chinese social network Weibo.

In the footage, the live animals are seen at one end of a large machine that apparently also distributes snacks.

The cats and dogs are kept in cramped enclosures as a sign tells customers they can win a pet by playing games on the machine.

First placed winners got a dog or cat and the second-placed prize was a chinchilla rodent.

Fish and plants were also available as prizes.

Following an online backlash, the company behind the project said that they had suspended it.

They added that it was carried out to raise money for charity and not to find homes for unwanted animals.

A company spokesperson also said on Weibo that they gave the animals clean water and fresh food and cleaned their enclosures frequently.

They also had vets on hand to make sure the animals were safe and healthy in their boxes.
