This popular female journalist with over a million Instagram followers has died aged 36 after a three-year battle with cancer.
Chilean journalist Javiera Suarez was diagnosed with skin cancer in March 2016 and the disease soon spread to other parts of her body.
Her husband Cristian Arriagada said: “Today, our beloved Javiera left us. She left us with a huge hole, but we are comforted in the knowledge that she accepted this final stage of the disease with trust in God, always looking forward and thinking of others.”
The couple first met at the gym in 2010 and began a relationship four years later.
They married in October 2015, but in March 2016, Javiera was diagnosed with skin cancer.
In an interview in May 2018, Javiera said: “This damn cancer is f*cking me up, I hate it despite knowing it will go away somehow.”
She reportedly underwent immunotherapy treatment for her stage-four cancer.
According to reports, Javiera was six weeks pregnant at the time of her diagnosis and doctors advised her to have an abortion.
In 2017, she said that “some people in the medical industry asked me why I did not terminate my pregnancy due to the risk involved with the cancer” and that the couple instead “decided to carry on”.
Javiera gave birth to her son Pedro Milagros, also pictured, in October 2016 after only 30 weeks of pregnancy.
Javiera’s death has shocked the media industry in Chile and many fellow journalists, actors and TV personalities left messages of condolences for her family.
