This footage shows an excited crowd joining the traditional sheep drive through London alongside the Lord Mayor as they make their way across Southwark Bridge.
Images obtained by Newsflash from political analyst Anna-Maria Galojan show the group, joined by Lord Mayor Alastair King, driving the sheep across the bridge on 28th September.
The London Sheep Drive is an annual ceremonial event in which freemen of the City of London exercise their ancient right to drive livestock across the bridge.
Revived in 2013 and organised by the Worshipful Company of Woolmen, the tradition dates back to medieval times, when freemen were allowed to bring sheep into the city without paying tariffs to use it.
Today, the event raises money for charity, with participants – often in ceremonial dress – herding sheep across the bridge under the supervision of farmers.
To take part, individuals must first become a freeman of the City of London, an honour that can be obtained by joining one of the City’s historic Livery companies, by nomination from existing freemen, or in recognition of achievement or service.
