Bizarre Catch As Hooked Octopus Pulled From The Sea Clinging To Mobile Phone

This is the bizarre moment a tourist fishing at sea hauls in an octopus clinging tightly to a mobile phone.

The unusual catch happened off the coast of Fuzhou in Fujian Province, eastern China, on Thursday, 25th September.

Video taken by the organiser, Mr Lin, shows the octopus wrapped firmly around the handset and refusing to release it even after being pulled from the water on a hook.

He said it was the first time in his years of running a sea fishing business that he had witnessed such a sight.

The octopus was hooked during a trip in waters about 10 metres (33 feet) deep.

Mr Lin suggested the phone had probably sunk earlier and been seized by the animal as a safe anchoring place.

Because the device had been submerged for so long, it no longer worked.

The tourist who caught the octopus retrieved the phone and later released the creature back into the sea after pulling it off the hook.

The owner of the lost phone has not been identified.
