Big Brother Contestant Evicted Over Gay Rape Joke

A Big Brother star has been booted off the reality TV show for making an on camera joke about raping another male contestant.

Martial arts trainer Banjo Dangalan, 27, was forcefully evicted from the Filipino version of Big Brother for making the joke about entrepreneur Gino Roque IV in front of other housemates.

It has sparked a storm of controversy in the Philippines where President Rodrigo Duterte
has been criticised for a string of off colour jokes about rape and homosexuality.

Dangalan made his quip while the housemates were having breakfast when, referring to Roque, he said: “I think it would feel wonderful to sleep next to him.”

He then asked another housemate if they could swap beds so he could be nearer Roque and added: “I will just rape this guy.”

Dangalan was later called into Big Brother’s diary room and told: “Raping someone, in whatever context, should never be made into a joke. And I will never allow these type of jokes inside my house.”

He is in tears after being told he is being evicted from the show

Big Brother told a shocked and tearful Dangalan that he was being evicted from the house, and told him to say goodbye to his fellow contestants.

Dangalan had previously been warned about his habit of sniffing the hair of female contestants which had reportedly made them feel uncomfortable.

His eviction sparked controversy in the Philippines where national president Rodrigo Duterte has been criticised for a long string of offensive jokes and comments.

Duterte, 74, has in the past told soldiers they would be pardoned if they committed rape in the war against Islamic fundamentalists.

Last year he joked that the high incidence of rape in his home province of Davao was because the women were so “beautiful”.

And Duterte recently sparked further fury by claiming he had “cured” himself of being gay by having relationships with beautiful women.

Netizen ‘Citizen Jane’ said: “Kuya (Big Brother) was right in evicting Banjo. Hopefully the President and his supporters learn something from Kuya’s action. Rape jokes are never acceptable.”

And ‘ynnadelfin’ added: “If PBB can evict a housemate for making rape jokes, why can’t we do the same for our President?”

Pinoy Big Brother Otso (PBB Otso) is the Philippine franchise of the globally successful reality show which is in its eighth season in the country.
