A baffled angler filmed the moment he caught a bizarre blob-shaped fish while fishing on a remote island as he struggled to figure out what exactly he had just pulled from the water.
The fisherman, from Vladivostok, was fishing on the Russky Island in Primorsky Krai, in Russia, on Saturday, 15th March, when he caught the bizarre sea creature.
The footage shows the fish on the ground in the snow in front of the man.
He can be seen turning it over, revealing its bizarre appearance, apparently made up of primarily its head.
As he handles the fish, it can be seen opening its mouth and closing it again. He then turns the fish over to reveal an odd hole on its underside.
He then turns the fish to show its strange tadpole-like tailfin.
Local media reports identified the fish as a pinagor, saying that it was a fish that is more commonly found in the northern Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean, and not Russian Pacific waters.
The pinagor, also known as a lumpfish (Cyclopterus) or sparrowfish, includes a number of subspecies, 17 of which are found in Russian waters.
