This Egyptian TikTok star has been arrested for “violating family values” in her videos and was caught after allegedly fleeing home when her arrest warrant was issued.
Influencer Mawada Eladhm, who has 3.1 million followers on TikTok, was arrested yesterday (Thursday) on charges of violating the values and principles of the family within Egyptian society, according to the country’s general prosecution.
According to state media, she was arrested in the city of 6th of October, a satellite city of the capital Cairo, after fleeing her New Cairo home earlier in the week when her arrest warrant was issued.
Prosecutors said she then travelled between the capital and the country’s north coast before she was tracked down through her car and arrested.
They said officers found a laptop and a mobile phone with no SIM card which was connected to a personal WiFi hotspot during the arrest.
Prosecutors have accused the social media star of creating profiles on social media that violated family values and principles.
She was reportedly set to be detained for four days pending investigations but has now been released after posting 20,000 GBP bail.
Eladhm, who has over 1.6 million followers on her Instagram account, rose to fame with videos dancing and lip-syncing in videos on TikTok and was arrested in March with another woman for violating Egypt’s coronavirus lockdown.
The case is ongoing.
